Stadhuys

The Stadthuys was the official residence of the Dutch Governor. It now houses the Historic and Ethnography Museum which has many traditional bridal costumes and relics on display. Nearby, one will also find the Christ Church built in 1753, another fine example of the Dutch architecture.

This Dutch legacy is distinctively red colored. I don’t know if it has similarity with Chinese culture where red means Prosperity.
This massive red building was built between 1641 and 1660 on the ruins of a Portuguese fort, and is believed to be the oldest Dutch building in the East. Inside you will experience Dutch Colonial architecture, substantial solid doors and louvered windows.

Walking The Stadhuys Stair.

Now been a history museum it exhibits trace of Melaka’s History from the great Malay Sultanate and the Portuguese, Dutch and British invasions, to the present day. The building is still tough and not much altered although it was nearly 300 years old.
